All Taste, No Waste
With the use of a biodegradable seal paper, you won’t find any aluminum in Terracaps. Instead, the biomaterial in Terracaps is based mainly on renewable raw materials whose monomers originate from the synthesis of microbial fermentation.
The main raw materials used are starch, glucose, vegetable fibers, inorganic filler materials, and biodegradable additives. This makes Terracaps entirely GMO-, gluten-free, and vegan. All monomers present in our bio-polymer are already listed and known by EFSA (EU) and FDA (USA). The biocapsule material is biodegradable according to DIN EN ISO 14855. Sustainability to the core is our motivation, which is why Terracaps can rejoin the resource cycle after use via industrial composting.
Climate-Neutral Coffee Capsules
By using renewable raw materials and energy — from wind, sun, hydropower, and biogas — in its production and offsetting greenhouse gas emissions, Terracaps attained ClimatePartner certification back in 2019. The certification affirms both our coffee capsules and our entire enterprise are climate-neutral.
The CO2 emissions that we have not yet been able to avoid are offset by forest protection projects to preserve the rain forests in Brazil according to the highest standards (CCBS Gold Level). They ensure the aroma and great taste of your coffee are fully preserved for an extended shelf life of more than 12 months without any further outer packaging. That’s outstanding performance for any capsule, not to mention an organic one.
With an oxygen transfer rate (OTR) in accordance with ISO 15105-2 of 0.0004 cm3/capsule/day, 0.21 bar at 23°C, and 50% r.h., the Terracaps biocapsule offers an outstanding oxygen barrier, which provides significant advantages, especially in economic terms.
